Tony Alamo made Michael Jackson look bad and Elvis Presley a hunka hunka sparkle and shine. Now he's helping the IRS make money.

An autographed belt from Elvis and design notes for a leather jacket made for Jackson are among the star-studded items the IRS plans to sell this week to recoup some of the $2.2 million Alamo owes in taxes.

Alamo, whose real name is Bernie Lazar Hoffman, is a country singer-turned-evangelist and clothing designer who is now serving time for tax evasion. For decades, he was sought out by the Hollywood and Nashville elite for his flashy, rhinestone-encrusted clothing and air-brushed denim jackets.

The IRS has made nearly $84,000 from previous auctions of his merchandise.

Mickey Mantle has a new mantra: ``Don't be like me.''

In his first public appearance Tuesday since a liver transplant a month ago, Mantle said he plans to spend the rest of his life mending his ways.

``God gave me the ability to play baseball and I wasted it,'' said Mantle, whose 40 years of hard drinking helped put the once-mighty New York Yankees slugger in the shape he's in. ``I'm going to spend the rest of my life trying to make up. I want to start giving something back.''

The 63-year-old Hall of Famer gave a news conference at the Baylor University Medical Center, where he received his new liver June 8.
