BASSETT MAN DIES IN WRECK

A Bassett man died Wednesday evening after he lost control of his car in Henry County and hit a tree.

James Arnold Spence Jr., 57, was driving on Virginia 57 when his car ran off the road. According to state police, Spence's car crossed the roadway when he tried to regain control.

The accident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Spence died about an hour later at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Police said Spence was not wearing a seat belt.
