LACROIX, TAYLOR MOVE CLOSER TO BOWERS FINALS

Roanoke teen-agers Brandon LaCroix and Lee Taylor advanced to the semifinals in their respective divisions Thursday during the 21st Bobby Bowers Memorial junior golf tournament, which concludes today at the Springfield (Va.) Golf and Country Club.

LaCroix beat Harrisonburg's Kemper Funkhouser on the 20th hole to win his match in the boys' 14-15 division. He will meet Michael Mitchell of Chevy Chase, Md., this morning. The winner of that match will play for the championship later today.

Taylor advanced in the 13-and-under division with a 5 and 4 win over Matt Mondorff of Crofton, Md. Taylor plays Amherst's Ryan Stinnett this morning

Pearisburg's Russ Johnston also moved into the 13-and-under semifinals by beating Chad Perman of Lutherville, Md., 2 and 1. Johnston plays this morning against Kevin O'Connell of Potomac, Md.

Roanoke's Jason Orlando was beaten by Brian Hanczaryk of Crofton, Md., in a quarterfinal match in the 16-17 division. After beating Christopher Connolly of Chevy Chase 2 and 1 earlier in the day, Orlando lost to Hanczaryk 4 and 3 in the afternoon.

Lexington's Eric Reynolds was beaten by New Hope's Andrew Wymer 5 and 4 in the 14-15 division.
