ALTIZER, Hassell Marvin, 80, of Blacksburg, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 1995, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hester Altizer. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Altizer, Blacksburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Grover and Caroline Altizer, W. Va.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Daisy and Tom Graham, Radford, Woneda and Charlie Grady, West Grove, Penn., Freda and John Baker, Lincoln University, Penn. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at White Rock Church of The Brethren with the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger officiating. Burial will follow in White Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd.

BAGLEY, Sherry Marie, of Orlando, Fla., died Sunday, July 9, 1995, as a result of an accident. She was the daughter of Donna Marie and Larry Pierce, Orlando, Fla. and a granddaughter, Mabel Harris Britts and the late Lawrence Peyton Britts, Roanoke. Mrs. Bagley is survived by her mother; grandmother; and several cousins. She lived for a time in Roanoke, where she attended school at Our Lady Nazareth Catholic Church. Funeral services Thursday, July 13 in Orlando, Fla.

BOWMAN, Emmert, O., 93, of LaPalma, Calf. and formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, July 7, 1995. Surviving are a daughter and son-in law; Virginia and Leo Mikesell, LaPalma, Calf.; stepdaughter and husband, Colleen and Charles Bonner of White Stone, Va.; two grandsons, Richard Mikesell and David Mikesell; a granddaughter, Cynthia Gillespie; three great-grandchildren, Candi, Andrew, and Justin; one sister, Eva Creasey of Roanoke; two brothers, Carl Bowman of Roanoke, and Joel Bowman, Pittsburgh, Pa. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, July 14, 1995 at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Harold S. Moyer officiating. Entombment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. CARTER, Elizabeth Frances, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 10, 1995. Survivors include her husband, Theodore L. Carter, Roanoke; one son, Richard Lee Carter, New Brunswick, N.J.; one daughter and son-in-law, Bettye and Jay Vincent, Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Valeria and Sonja Vincent, both of Knoxville, Tenn., Jewel and Kimberley Carter, both of Orange, N.J.; one brother, Leonard Butler, Hollins; devoted niece, Clara Thurman Gordon, Bloomington, Ind.; devoted cousins, Helen D. King and family, Charleston, W.Va.; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 1995, at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home with the Rev. K.B. CHAFIN, Mikie Ray, 85, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 1995, in Friendship Manor Health Care Center. He was born January 28, 1910, in Bedford County, a son of the late Joshua R. Chafin and Corrie Hubbard Chafin. His wife was the late Lena Witt Chafin. He was retired from the Bedford County Commissioner's Office after 50 years, was a memberof the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #321, a member of the Huddleston Ruritan Club, and was a member of the Quaker Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Jeanette E. Myers, Roanoke; a grandson, Brian G. Myers, Roanoke; a sister, Eula Willard, Moneta; a brother, Onyx Chafin, Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, 1995, from the Quaker Baptist Church by the Rev. Elmer Sellers and the Rev. Lewis Garst. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. CHUMLEY, Dwayne Dereck, 35, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, July 11, 1995, after a life long battle with cerebral palsy. He is survived by his parents, Ralph C. and Mary L. Chumley of Vinton; brothers, Ralph (Cliff) Chumley II, Roanoke, and Clint D. Chumley, Vinton; sisters, A. Paige O'Leary of Roanoke, Kimberly C. Rosa of California. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at the Chumley Family Cemetery, Rt. 2, Hurt, Va. DAVIS, Frank Ray, 83, of Route 1, Narrows, died Wednesday morning, July 12, 1995, in the Princeton Community Hospital. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on June 7, 1909, the son of the late Joshua and Elvira Cooper Davis. He was a retired employee of the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Midkiff Davis. He is survived by several nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Arnold Gillispe officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

EPPERLY, Ruth Estelle Maxey, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 11, 1995. She is survived by her husband, G.W. Epperly; a d aughter and son-in-law, Eva Jo and Ernie Dove of Norfolk; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George W. Jr. and Jan Epperly of Pulaski, Neil Epperly, Christiansburg; a daughter-in-law, Doris E. Epperly, Blacksburg; four grandchildren, Jennene Epperly Matheny and her husband, Charles of Willis, Shanna Dove Simmons and her husband, David of Virginia Beach, Wesley Dove and his wife, Chrissy of Norfolk, Missy Epperly DeCosta and her husband, Mitch of Christiansburg, Amanda Brubaker of Pulaski; three great-grandchildren, Michael and Brandi Grey of Willis, Kara Simmons, Virginia Beach; a fourth great-grandchild, Baby DeCosta, is due in September; also, one brother and sister-in-law, James Earl and Dana Maxey of Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Maxey and a son, John Roger Epperly. Mrs. Epperly was a faithful member of Oak Grove Church in Christiansburg, where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She had been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. She will be greatly missed by her family and a host of caring friends. The funeral will be 11 a.m Friday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Eugene Flinchum, the Rev. Mike Reynolds, the Rev. Willie Yates will officate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 12 noon Thursday at the funeral home. MENEFEE, Virginia Bennett, 85, of Ellicott City, Maryland, died Monday, July 10, 1995, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, Md. Born May 23, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Eck and Easter Bennett. She was the wife of the late John H. Menefee. Surviving are her daughter,

OVERSTREET, Ruby Lawrence, 82, of Route 3, Vinton, died Tuesday, July 11, 1995. She was the widow of Albert B. Overstreet. Surviving are two brothers, Paul Lawrence, Roanoke, Dalton Lawrence, Thaxton; sister, Myrtle Jernell, Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews. POFF, Marvin Arlis, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 1995 at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was the owner and operator of Salem Paving Corporation for the past 30 years. He also owned and operated a dairy farm in Floyd Co. for over 35 years. Mr. Poff was a charter member of Windsor Hills Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director for the past 14years. He was a former Deacon and a member of the sanctuary choir. He sang with the Roanoke Cardinal Chorus of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. for several years and belonged to the Roanoke and American Rose Societies. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years after World War II. He was the son of the late Meryman and Maude Poff of Copper Hill. Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Arlene Graham Poff; two children, Rev. Michael D. Poff of Fort Worth, Texas, Marlene P. Sowder and husband Jeff C. Sowder of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Mary Catherine Sowder; two sisters-in-law, Dorsie Graham of Oakton and Neva Olson of Charlottesville; also a beloved aunt, Cassie C. Campbell of Vinton; one niece and one nephew. Funeral services will be at Windsor Hills Baptist Church 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, 1995. The Rev. C. Lawrence Dodson and the Rev. Ron Sutherland will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. SECRIST, Beulah Beatrice, 71, of Salem, and formerly of Roanoke, died Tuesday, July 11, 1995. She is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard (``Bill"") and Irene Secrist of Roanoke, Joe and Lucille Secrist of Blue Ridge, Jasper and Jean Secrist of Troutville; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruby Jacobs, Mamie S. St. Clair both of Roanoke, Avis Handy of Vinton, Nancy and Jimmy McKinney of Troutville; sister-in-law, Charlotte Secrist of Troutville; a favorite niece and nephew, Marie and Buddy Moore of Troutville and several other nieces and nephews. SMITH, Don R., 47, of Laurel Creek Court, Spruce Pine, N.C., died Wednesday in a Hickory hospital. He was the son of Eunice Tolley Smith of Lexington, Va. and the late Warren Alexander Smith. A graduate of Campbell College, he had worked at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation since 1987. He was appointed the administrator in 1989 and was later named Administrator of the Year. During this time as administrator, the facility won numerous awards. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the choir. Mr. Smith was a member of Spruce Pine Rotary Club and was currently serving as President of Mayland Presbyterian Fellowship. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Martha Buchanan Smith; two daughters, LeeAnna Louise Smith, 13, and Sarah Margaret Smith, 8, all of the home; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Buchanan of Spruce Pine, N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel B. and Pauline S. Buchanan of Rex, Ga. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Gale Lammey and Rev. Ken Lance will officiate. Graveside services will be 5 p.m. Saturday at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lexington, Va. Chaplain Wilson, U.S. Navy-Virginia Military Institute, Retired, will officiate.
