STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE WILDER'S FORMER WIFE

State police are investigating former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder's ex-wife, Richmond television station WWBT-TV reported Thursday.

Eunice Montgomery Wilder is the treasurer of the city of Richmond.

The television station reported Thursday night that the inquiry focuses on the salary Eunice Wilder pays her daughter, Lynn, who works full time in the treasurer's office.

Reached at her home in Richmond early this morning, Eunice Wilder said she learned about the investigation from the television station's report. She declined to comment further. Lynn Wilder could not be reached for comment.

The report also said state Attorney General James Gilmore III authorized the investigation.

The Wilders were college sweethearts. They have three children: Lynn, Loren and Larry. They were divorced in 1978.
