Johnston, a 6-handicapper at Virginia Tech Golf Club, advanced to the final by beating Marylander Kevin O'Connell 2 and 1 in a Thursday morning semifinal. Taylor beat Amherst's Ryan Stinnett 2 and 1 in the other semifinal.
Brandon LaCroix, the other Roanoke-area player with a shot at a title, was eliminated 5 and 4 by Marylander Michael Chase in Thursday morning's semifinal round of the 14-15 division. Mitchell went on to win the 14-15 title, beating Johnny Groupe of Fairfax Station 3 and 2 in the final.
Cameron Yancey of Blackstone captured the 16-17 championship, beating Ben Keefer of Richmond 4 and 3.
Mallory Crosland of Bethesda, Md., won the girls' title, downing Chrissy Arriola of Burke 5 and 4 in the final.

In a rousing comeback, the Virginias squad won seven of 11 matches and rallied to beat the Carolinas 521/2-461/2 in the 39th annual Virginias-Carolinas women's golf team matches at Hermitage Country Club in Richmond.
The loss snapped a seven-year winning streak by the Carolinas squad in the series. The Carolinas squad leads the series 22-17.
The Virginias team, which trailed 351/2-301/2 after the first two days of competition, rallied Thursday by taking seven of the 11 matches, including five by a 3-0 score.
Salem's Lee Shirley and Martinsville's Fran Hensley contributed heavily to the Virginias comeback, teaming with partners to score 3-0 victories.
Aubrey Najjum of Roanoke, competing in the Super Senior division, also contributed points for the winners.
