HUNT ON FOR NEW PRINCIPAL

Pulaski County High School's assistant principal will take over the head position at the school until a successor to Principal Tom DeBolt is hired.

DeBolt has resigned after four years on the job to become superintendent of schools for Manassas Park.

The School Board named Carl Lindstrom, senior administrative staff member at the school, interim principal after an executive session Thursday.

The board also will increase the hours of assistant Harold Lambert, who has been part time on the high school administrative staff since retiring from Pulaski Middle School.

The board commended DeBolt for his work and for being "a voice for change" at the school.

The search for a successor has begun. The board sent advertisements for the position to three states. The cutoff for applications was to have been Friday, but Asbury said it likely will be extended for a bit.

A screening panel will identify the top six to 10 applicants by July 19 and invite them for interviews to be conducted between July 24 and July 28. The top two applicants will be interviewed and a new principal probably will be recommended to the board at its Aug. 10 meeting.

The board re-elected Ron Chaffin its chairman and Dr. Nathan Tuck vice chairman. It reappointed Lewis Pratt its representative to the Southwest Virginia Governor's School and added Sybil Atkinson as an alternate.
