Free poetry slam is waiting for you

BLACKSBURG - Roses are red, violets are blue

There'll be a poetry slam soon at a restaurant near you.

At Maxwell's in Blacksburg on Monday, July 17

The free event at 7 p.m. - it'll be a happening scene!

Not sure what a poetry slam is and what will be in store?

It's when poets read their verses like you've never heard before.

Anne Cheney is putting it together - she's its heart and soul.

She's a Virginia Tech professor who teaches the Literature of Rock and Roll.

There's even space for a guest poet or two,

Though Anne's students will have most of the work to do.

For more information, and a good time, too,

Call Anne at 951-3159.

Internet's potential is discussion topic

BLACKSBURG - A free discussion on the community-building potential of the Internet is set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Blacksburg Police Station Conference Room.

The discussion is part of Virginia Tech's continuing Choices and Challenges forums. Presenters will be Laurence Lundblade, an email software designer, and Barbara Ruys, an architect and diversity consultant. The facilitator will be Chris Hays Dove, coordinator of Choices and Challenges.

The discussion will deal with how the internet is forming global communities and how they are affecting localities. For more information, call 231-6476.
