BOUNTY OFFERED TO BEAT DRIVER ON FCS CARD

Bobby Radford will be seeking his eighth victory of the season tonight in the Rainbo Bread/Maaco Auto Bay 300 at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway.

Promoter Whitey Taylor has placed a $2,000 bounty on Radford and his Chrysler Lebaron. Taylor also has set a $400 bounty on Mike Elkins of the Street Stock Division.

Four other divisions will race. Admission is $5 for adults, free for children 10 and under.

In other auto racing news:

A full field of cars will be entered in the only non-stop 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race of the season tonight at New River Valley Speedway in Radford.

Roanoke's Tony McGuire holds a six-point edge over Michael Ritch of High Point, N.C., in the LMSC points standings. However it will be Ronnie Thomas of Christiansburg who will be going for his fourth straight win.

Also on the Basham Oil/F&L Oil/ Pennzoil 300 card are 35 laps for the Limited Sportsman and 25 each for the Mini and Pure Stock divisions.

A sky-diving team will make its annual jump into the speedway, landing at the start/finish line prior to the first race at 8 p.m. The final Pennzoil go-kart also will be given away during the evening.

Gates open at 1:30 with practice at 3:30. Qualifying gets under way at 6. Admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

The Goody's 500 will be run in April of 1996 at Martinsville Speedway instead of September. The Hanes 500 will be run in the September slot. The raceway decided to swap dates to maximize the sponsors' marketing.

This year's Goody's weekend includes the Goody's 150 NASCAR SuperTruck Series Sept.23. Tickets for this year's Goody's 500, the Goody's 150, and the Taco Bell 300 are available by calling the speedway at (703) 956-3151.

Shari Minter, a native of Martinsville, finished 19th in the NASCAR sportsman stock car race at Pocono International Raceway.

Minter, who lives in Harrisburg, N.C., completed all 60 laps and finished on the lead lap behind winner Lester Lesneski of Stanfield, N.C. She qualified 11th for the race.

Durkac signs with Lumberjacks

Bo Durkac, a former Virginia Tech baseball player, has signed a contract with the Adirondack Lumberjacks of the Northeast League. Durkac was a third baseman for the Hokies.

The Roanoke Star VIS advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1995 Austria Cup soccer tournament. Curtis Shank and Clay Nelson scored in a 4-2 loss to Prebbaum SV Austria, but the Star advanced on bonus points from other games. The Star will play Lokomotive Sofia from Bulgaria in the quarterfinals.
