First, on July 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the first Children's Book Conference will be held at Hollins College. It's a relatively unstructured affair, with the presentation of critical theses by people who have been studying children's literature at Hollins, readings of original works and critical discussion sessions. Topics include Biblical children's literature, Sendak and company, young adult literature and history and criticism.

On August 2, the Fourth Annual Celebration of Children's Literature will be held at the Virginia Highland Community College in Abingdon, Va. This year's featured guests are author E.L. Konigsburg, illustrator Kevin Hawkes and poet Lee Bennett Hopkins. The price tag for the celebration is $50; lunch will set you back $8.
