The Associated Press on Friday erroneously reported the authorship of a 1993 letter suggesting that President Clinton should consider showing a loss from the Whitewater land deal on his 1992 tax return. The letter was written by accountant Robert Jones to the Clintons' one-time personal attorney, Robert Barnett, who passed the letter along to Vincent Foster, then deputy White House counsel.
