BLACKWELL, Sadie F., (Mrs. J.T.), of Roanoke died Sunday, July 16, 1995 after a long illness. Mrs. Blackwell was a retired private duty nurse in Roanoke, and formerly was on the nursing staff of Stevens Clinic Hospital in Welch, W. Va. Born in Scarbro, W. Va. , the daughter of John Edgar and Annie Martin Fleeman. She was preceded in death by her husband John, sons, William Daniel, and David Malcolm, four sisters, and two brothers. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Mary Ann, Fairfax; a granddaughter and her husband, Deborah B. and Nills E. Mikkelsen, Lexington, Ky.; and a grandson, Jeffrey B. Blackwell, Fairfax. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at Evergreen Burial Park at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with Dr. Daniel E. Scott officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Roanoke Memorial Hospital Hospice Program, P.O. Box 13367, Roanoke, Va. 24033, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. BROWN, Raymond Keith, (``Chuck""), 37, of 1153 Ruddell Road, Vinton, died Saturday, July 15, 1995, at Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley in Roanoke. He was born in Clifton Forge on February 2, 1958, the son of Ernest O. and Shirley Robinson Brown of Route 1, Clifton Forge. He was an employee of ITT of Roanoke, and attended Sharon Baptist Church in Clifton Forge. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jessica Smith Brown of Vinton; a son Keith P. Brown of Covington; one sister, Lisa Brown Collins of Snellville, Ga.; a number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge with the Rev. John Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Church Cemetery. The f amily will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggest that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Moutaineer Athletic Club (Baseball Team) in care of Alleghany High School or the Sharon Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund.
CUMBEE, Woodrow Wilson, 81, of Newport, died Saturday evening, July 15, 1995 at the home of his daughter following a long illness. Born in Giles Co., Va., he was a son of the late Luther and Ellie Lang Cumbee. Wilson was the husband of the late Gladys Songer Cumbee and was a retired farmer and laborer who loved the land and loved to work with it. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Dowdy and Reba Cumbee, both of Newport; two stepdaughters, Elsie Cumbee, Maybrook and Margaret Cumbee, Blacksburg; three stepsons, Roscoe Dowdy and Marvin Dowdy, both of Pembroke, and Martin Dowdy, Blacksburg; two brothers, Frank Cumbee, Maybrook and Albert Cumbee, Newport; two sisters, Maggie Cumbee and Eunice Sexton, both of Newport; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Fune ral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 18, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. Roger Henderson and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
DUDLEY, Estill Hayslett, 79, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, July 16, 1995 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born June 21, 1916 in Lexington, daughter of the late Will Hayslett and Emma Kirby Hayslett. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Buena Vista. She had been retired for many years from Bernson Silk Mill. Surviving are her husband, Thomas Dudley; five sons, William Dudley, Clyde Dudley, Bane Dudley and Powell Dudley, all of Buena Vista, and Roosevelt Dudley, Manassas; one daughter, Dottie Mohler, Buena Vista; three brothers, Robert Hayslett and John Hayslett, both of Lexington and Jim Hayslett, Salem; one sister, Josephine Hayslett, Lexington; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dean Staton officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery.
