APCO TO SHUT OFF POWER FOR AN HOUR

Four hundred Appalachian Power Co. residential customers in Southwest Roanoke County will have their power cut off temporarily this morning as the company upgrades its distribution system to accommodate growing power demand.

The area that will be affected includes Sugar Loaf Mountain Road, Grandin Road extension, Meadowcreek Drive and surrounding neighborhoods.

Growing power use has made it necessary for the company to replace three transformers with larger units, Apco spokeswoman Victoria Ratcliff said. Most customers will be without power for only about an hour, from 8 to 9 a.m., she said.
