CANNONS WALK PAST AVALANCHE, MILLION

A third consecutive one-run victory gave the Prince William Cannons a series sweep of the Salem Avalanche on Monday night.

Harold Williams scored the only run on Andre Newhouse's bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the second as the Cannons won 1-0.

Prince William has won eight of its past nine games with Salem and is 12-5 against the Avalanche this season. The teams will not meet again in the regular season.

Salem (14-11) was shut out for the eight time, all on the road.

The Avalanche had a chance to score in the top of the ninth when Forry Wells, Brian Culp and Colin Dixon reached to load the bases with one out. But Pookie Jones struck out swinging, and Steven Bernhardt hit into a fielder's choice groundout to end the game.

Doug Million (3-4) took the loss, his fourth to the Cannons (11-15) this season. Million gave up only two hits, but he walked seven, including four in the decisive inning to produce the game's only run.
