EXTENSION CORD BLAMED FOR FATAL FIRE

The fire Tuesday at 1216 Tazewell Ave. S.E. that killed Doris Faye Dillon, 53, was caused by an overheated air conditioning extension cord, Assistant Fire Marshal Bob Meyer said.

Meyer said the Fire Department didn't know of any previous electrical problems in the house.

Dillon's daughter-in-law, Dianna Dillon, said the family had been concerned about her mother-in-law's house having only one door. Meyer said that, in a single-resident house, that is legal.

"A lot of people think of an emergency exit in cases like those," he said. "The emergency exit is a window."
