TECH WORKER CHARGED WITH RAPE

A Virginia Tech housekeeping supervisor has been charged with the abduction and rape of a co-worker last month.

Sidney Perry Cook, 35, was charged Tuesday with rape, abduction with intent to defile and attempted forcible sodomy, Tech officials said. The charges stem from an investigation of an alleged June 23 incident on university property during work hours, said David Nutter, a university spokesman.

The woman reported the matter to police on Sunday, Nutter said. She also works in housekeeping.

Cook, of Christiansburg, has been suspended without pay and is banned from Tech property until the charges are resolved. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Blacksburg General District Court.
