Bell Atlantic Corp., Philadelphia telecommunications company, reported second-quarter net income of $477.1 million, or $1.02 per share, on revenues of $3.56 billion, compared with year-earlier $415.4 million, or 95 cents per share, on revenues of $3.43 billion. For the six months, net income was $861.6 million, or $1.97 per share, on revenues of $7.01 billion, compared with year-earlier $804.6 million, or $1.84 per share, on revenues of $6.85 billion.
Uni-Marts
Uni-Marts Inc., State College, Pa.-based convenience-store operator of a chain of Virginia units, reported net earnings of $793,208, or 13 cents per share, on sales of $84.9 million for its third quarter ended June 29, compared with year-earlier $693,930, or 10 cents per share, on sales of $80.5 million. For the first three quarters, net earnings were $2.7 million, or 43 cents per share, on sales of $237.9 million, compared with year-earlier $2.4 million, or 35 cents per share, on sales of $241.3 million.
Bell South
BellSouth Corp., Atlanta-based parent of BellSouth Communication Systems of Roanoke, reported a second-quarter net loss of $2.18 billion, equal to $4.38 per share, on revenues of $4.39 billion, compared with year-earlier net income of $516.5 million, or $1.04 per share, on revenues of $4.13 billion. For the six months, the net loss was $1.63 billion, equal to $3.28 per share, on revenues of $2.19 billion, compared with year-earlier net income of $1.10 billion, or $2.22 per share, on revenues of $2.01 billion.
CSX
CSX Corp., Richmond-based transportation and real estate company, reported second-quarter net earnings of $19 million, or 18 cents per share, on revenues of $2.60 billion, compared with year-earlier $162 million, or $1.55 per share, on revenues of $2.32 billion. For the first six months, net earnings were $140 million, or $1.33 per share, on revenues of $5.07 billion, compared with year-earlier $236 million, or $2.26 per share, on revenues of $4.59 billion.
