PAIR THREATEN CLERKS, ROB LANCER MART

Two men robbed a Lancer Mart Food Store Thursday night by threatening the clerks and saying they had guns.

The men left the store, located in the 1500 block of 10th Street Northwest, with a bottle of wine and an unknown amount of money from the cash register about 9:50 p.m., according to a Roanoke police press release.

Store employees told the police one man entered the store and stood looking into the wine cooler. Soon after, another man entered the store.

The first man took a bottle of wine from the cooler and put it under his shirt. The store clerk and another employee confronted him as he tried to leave, the police said.

At that point, the man said ``this is a robbery,'' placed his right hand under his shirt and made gestures as if he had a gun.

The second man went behind the store's counter toward the cash drawer. When the employees confronted him, he held his right hand under his shirt, just as the first man had, and told the employees he had a gun.

Two customers in the store witnessed the robbery.

Major J.L. Viar said police have suspects in the case.
