BASHAM, Emma Paitsel, 85, of Hardy, died Friday, July 21, 1995. She was the widow of Raymond S. Basham, and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte B. and Charles Ryder; two grandchildren, Kenneth Ryder, and Terri Ryder, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Cicero Wheeler, Hardy, and Eliza Loyd, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at White Rock Baptist Church, 12 noon Monday, July 24, 1995, with Rev. Steve Witt officiating. Interment will be in Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

BRANSCOM, Lillian Pauline, 90, of Martinsville, died Friday, July 21, 1995. Graveside services 2 p.m. Sunday, Stuart Cemetery, Stuart. Arrangements by Tomlinson Funeral Home, Ridgeway.

COOPER, Robert Milford Sr., 85, of 1709 Wycliffe St., Bedford, died Friday, July 21, 1995, in Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Grayson County, January 29, 1910, son of the late David Franklin Cooper and Lura Mae Hall Cooper. He was a former resident of Arlington where he was Chief Electrical Inspector for Arlington County for many years. He was a dedicated christian man, having served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons of Clarendon Baptist Church, Arlington. He loved to study the bible, had taken bible study courses at The Bible Institute, Washington, D.C. and upon his retirement to Bedford had taught Sunday School at Bedford Baptist Church. He was a member of the Arlington Royal Arch Chapter #35. Mr. Cooper was the devoted husband of Josie Mae Lockhart Cooper; loving father of Robert M. Cooper Jr. of St. Augustine, Fla., David J. Cooper of Culpepper, Rebecca E. Rohrback of Camden, Ariz., Patricia M. Cooper of Charleston, W.Va.; brother of Curtis D. Cooper of Culpepper, and Okie C. Osborne of Mouth of Wilson; grandfather of eight; and a friend to many in the community. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 24, 1995 at 7 p.m. at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. D. Glen Langston officiating. The family will receive friends following service. Burial will be on Tuesday at National Memorial Park., Falls Church. In lieu of flowers, please remember either the Bedford Life Saving Crew or your favorite charity. FAITH, Lois Cadd, 78, of Anderson, Indiana, died Thursday, July 20, 1995. She was formerly of Roanoke, and was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Faith Sr., and a son, William J. Faith Jr. Mrs. Faith was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Anderson, Ind. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Bernadette Spencer, Fort Wayne, Ind.; sisters, Hazel Minter, Petersburg, Va., Bessie Deacon, Troutville, Va.; grandchildren, Richard Spencer, and Courtney Spencer; great-grandson, Nicholas Shawn McDowell; also several nieces and nephews. There will be a Rosary at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 6 p.m. Sunday. Funeral mass will be at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 11:15 a.m. Monday, July 24, 1995, with the Rev. James M. Fosnot officiating. GILES, Elizabeth V. Yopp, (``Betty""), 68, of Roanoke, formerly of Troutville, died Saturday, July 22, 1995, after a courageous eight year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, James M. Giles; son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Bonnie W. Giles, Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law, Judy B. Pritchard, Roanoke, Vickie K. and Matthew D. Broughman, Troutville; grandsons, T. Matthew Pritchard, Roanoke, Travis P. Sarver, Troutville, Ian C. Giles and Tyler R. Giles, both of Roanoke; granddaughter, Melissa K. Broughman, Troutville; a very special, loving, caring sister, Doris Y. Perew, Roanoke; a special niece and family, Deborah, Gary, Greg, and Amanda Sprinkle, Goodview; sisters, Jean Stockton, Roanoke, Nettie Buriss, Elliston; brother, Claude Yopp, Towson, Md.; sister-in-law and brother-in -law, Charlotte and Leo Summers, Hardy. GROSECLOSE, Catherine Williams, 76 of Route 3, Wytheville, died Saturday, July 22, 1995, at the residence of her son, J.C. in Troutville. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Herman S. and Rosa Davis Williams. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Treasurer of the UMW, and a member of the planning committee. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Club and Evansham Chapter #97, Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Groseclose. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, J.C. and Barbara Groseclose, Trout ville; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Jimmy Crigger, Blue Ridge; grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Con and Sharon Groseclose, Wytheville, Chris Crigger, Richard Groseclose, Blue Ridge; great-grandson, Cullen Groseclose, Wytheville. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 24, 1995, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. HOLLAND, Elijah Grant, 82, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 1995. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad. His wife, Jennie Mae Holland, preceded him in death. A sister, Mildred Virginia Brown, just preceded him in death six days prior to his death. Survivors include two daughters, Irene Bond and Maggie Clayton, both of Bronx, N.Y.; four sons, Thomas Holland, New York, N.Y., Leon Holland, Bronx, N.Y., Winston Holland and Tyrone Holland, both of Roanoke; two brothers, Alfred (Ruth) Holland, Rocky Mount, and Walter Holland, Cambridge, Mass.; four grandchildren, Deanna Holland, Patrice Holland, Cherie Holland and Michael Hancock; five great-grandchildren, Terrance Jr., Brandon Holland, James Claytor, D'Asia Holland, and Jonita Trussell; a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, July 24, 11 a.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Dr. J. Eugene Young will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. JEFFERIS, Juanita, (""Nita""), 69, of the Brook Meade Home for Adults, Shawsville, died Tuesday, July 18, 1995. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Rosa Elizabeth Himes Jefferis. Surviving are two aunts, Janice Myers, and Virginia Guinn; and one uncle, Lauren Himes, all of Roanoke. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 1995 in the Evergreen Burial Park, with Pastor John Hawn officiating. LEWEY, James Williams, 59, of La Plata, Md., passed away Thursday, July 20, 1995, at his residence. He was a son of William H. and Ruth Finn Lewey of Dublin. Mr. Lewey was employed for 25 years with the Washington Evening Star Newspaper prior to it's closing. He was also with the CWA-ITU Local 101-12 for 38 years. Survivors in addition to his parents are his sister, Dorothy M. Folks, La Plata, Md.; brother-in-law, Charles T. Folks of Tampa, Fla.; nieces, Carol Lynne Lewin of La Plata, Md., Teresa K. Alba of Tampa, Fla.; nephew, Charles Douglas Folks of Mechanicsville, Md.; six grand nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 24, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Thorn Spring Cemetery in Pulaski County. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. LONG, Leon David, 72, of Salem, moved up to Heaven, Friday, July 21, 1995, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Violet Minnix Long; daughters, Connie Long and Linda Long; sons, Darrell Long and wife, Nancy, Danny Long, Larry Long and wife, Carla; granddaughters, Tracy and husband, D. J., Jami, Teke, Whitney, Nikki, Caitlyn and Kelli; brother, Melvin Long; sisters, Barbara Craighead, Betty Rose. He was a highly decorated World War II veteran and a faithful member, trustee and choir member of Gospel Baptist Church. The world's best husband, father and grandfather. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 24, 1995, noon at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Huntley officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. TEW, Antonia Ford, 87, of Newport News, died Wednesday, July 19, 1995, in Riverside Regional Convalescent Center. She was a native of Richmond, and was a Peninsula resident 60 years. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She is survived by one brother, Joseph D. Ford Jr. of Newport News; nephew, Joseph D. Ford, III, of Columbia, Md.; niece, Susan Ford Irons of Yorba Linda, Calif. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert D. TURNER, Henry E. Jr., 70, of Buchanan, died Friday, July 21, 1995. He was a teacher for over 30 years with the Roanoke and Botetourt County School Systems, and an avid farmer. Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Turner Newcomb; grandson, Tyler Daniel Newcomb; a brother, Paul B. Turner, all of Roanoke; stepdaughter, Kay H. Wirt; stepgrandsons, William Wirt and Jason Wilkerson, all of Buchanan. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 24, 1995 at 2 p.m. in Fair View Cemetery, Roanoke, with the Rev. Bobby A. WEADE, Mable Staton, 88, of Lexington, died Saturday, July 22, 1995 in a Richmond Nursing Home. Mrs. Weade was born July 2, 1907 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Powhatan Marshall Staton and Susan Reese Staton. She was a member of the Blacks Ceek Home Extension Club and the Buena Vista Senior Citizens. She was the widow of Robert Wilson Weade. Surviving are two sons, Donald (Phil) Weade, Lexington, and Ronald L. Weade, Richmond; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 1995 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Rutan and Robert W. Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in the Union View Christian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.

WHEELER, Carl Jennings, 66, of Flagstaff, Ariz., died Thursday, July 20, 1995. He was born February 7, 1929 in Narrows and moved to Flagstaff, Ariz. 42 years ago. He was a retired educater where he taught in Flagstaff for 29 years, Kinsey Elementary, retired from Flagstaff Jr. High, and also taught in Chinle for three. In 1991 he was awarded the Arizona Middle School Outstanding Teacher Award. He received his Masters at NAU, was a member of the American Legion and Elks, and was a volunteer for the St. Vincent dePaul Society. Survivors include his wife whom he married in 1966 in Flagstaff, Janet Schira Wheeler; two daughters, Lori Grace Clayton, Stacy Wheeler; one son, Andy Wheeler, all of Flagstaff, Ariz; four brothers, Sam, Ray, and Cliff, all of Narrows, Paul of Dublin; three sisters, Wava Testerman of Richland, Hazel Akers of Narrows, and Bonida Roatenberry of Dublin; grandchild, Schira Wheeler of Flagstaff, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Monday, July 24, 1995, at 10 a.m. at the Natavity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Flagstaff, Ariz. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion of Flagstaff. Visitation will be Sunday at 6:30 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2113 N. East Street, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. WOOD, Lottie Ridgeway, 90, of South Roanoke Nursing Home, Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Friday, July 21, 1995. She was the widow of Harry E. Wood, and a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood was a former employee of the American Viscose and N.W. Pugh Company. She retired from Bowles Bake Shop. She was preceded in death by a sister, Leona R. Sink. Surviving are one sister, Ruth Ridgeway Buchanan, Roanoke Co.; niece, Sue S. Garber, Harrisonburg. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Virginia Baptist Home, 860 Mount Vernon Lane, Salem, Va. 24153.
