VANDERVEER GETS 1ST WIN

Phillip VanDerVeer of Vinton shook off a first-lap wreck to earn the first Late Model Stock Car victory of his career Saturday in the NPA-WIX Filters 300 50-lap feature at Franklin County Speedway.

VanDerVeer and Steve Lynch were involved in a six-car pileup after the start, but neither of their cars sustained serious damage. Lynch's night ended one lap later when he and Orvil Reedy collided.

VanDerVeer later hit a wall, but recovered to barely hold off Bobby Radford.

Larry Hodges was third, followed by Lowe Smith and George Spangler.

In other races:

Mike Elkins posted his 11th victory of the season in the Street Stock division, followed by Mike Dudley, Freddie Goff, David Smith and Bill Bratton.

Chris Martin won the Mini Stock race. Travis Sharp was second, followed by James Cox, Wayne Roach Jr., and Carlton Clark.

In the Pure Stock race, Jay Peery was first, followed by Greg Tester, Doc Holiday, Tommy Dooley and Ted Harris.

Bobby Davis won the Rookie division, followed by Mark Stoner, Ricky Ferguson, David Duncan and Harland Dalton.

Paul Millner won the Any Car race.
