TEE TIME FOR HALL OF FAME GOLF

The Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame Senior and Junior championships tee off today at Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem.

Ned Baber of Roanoke Country Club will attempt to defend his title in the Seniors division. Baber, 58, beat longtime foe Dan Keffer in a playoff last year to become the first player to win the men's regular and Senior divisions of the Hall of Fame.

Baber's primary competition for individual honors figures to come from Don Foster, Gibby Wingfield, Don Ragland, Bill Shrader and Keffer.

In Seniors team competition, Blue Hills will be seeking a record third straight title.

Since 1994 winner Brian Agee no longer is eligible because of age restrictions, a new Junior division champion is certain to be crowned. Top threats to claim the individual title include Nick Varney, Mark Sweeney, Mark Baldwin, Tommy Lesperance, Jacob Jarrett, Justin Young, Brandon LaCroix, Doug Kenney and Ray Harrell.

In team play, Countryside will shoot for a record seventh title.

The 36-hole tournament concludes Friday at Blue Hills.
