New support group at Green Ridge Baptist

Green Ridge Baptist Church will begin a support group on Sept. 17 to help adults deal with problems from their dysfunctional childhoods.

The 13-week support group is for the entire community and will work through a study titled "Making Peace With Your Past."

Dr. Doug Keffer of New Beginnings Counseling Services will lead the group. The fee is $12 per person, and the group will meet at the church, 5521 Green Ridge Road N.W., on Sundays at 5 p.m.

City needs volunteers for kids program

The city of Roanoke needs volunteers for its new Volunteer Leadership Training Program. Participants will receive 60 hours of training to learn how to lead groups in the city's Adventure for Kids after school program at Fallon Park Elementary and Huff Lane Intermediate schools.

Following the initial training, the volunteers will receive 100 hours of on-site training in three-hour increments one day a week through the 1995-96 school year. Each trainee will be required to continue to volunteer for at least one additional year after the training year.

Volunteers will be selected in early August. Classroom training is set to run from Aug. 21 to 31.

SHARE offers food packages for $14

SHARE, a nonprofit food distribution and community service program active in Southwest Virginia, is offering food packages valued at $30 for $14 in cash or food stamps.

Participants must agree to volunteer two hours a month with the program.

Rescue squad seeks crafters for show

The Cave Spring Rescue Squad Auxiliary is accepting applications for its fourth Annual Gifts Galore Craft Show to be held Oct. 26-28 at the rescue squad building on Brambleton Avenue. The profits will be used to purchase life saving equipment for the rescue squad.
