Sounds like a wiener to me.
McCoy Park is where you'll find the hot dogs, tasty treats and gooey sweets Saturday. Great food is part of the community's annual "Fun Day."
The event, sponsored by the Longshop-McCoy Ruritan Club, starts with a parade at 10 a.m. Afterward, you can stay for live music, games and a variety of contests for kids and adults.
The park is beside the McCoy Volunteer Fire Department. Admission to Saturday's "Fun Day" is free.
LAWN POTATO: Forget the couch. You can stretch out and relax on the lawn tonight.
The outdoor concerts continue with members of the Summer Musical Enterprise performing selections from their upcoming show, "Fiddler on the Roof." Musicians, choral singers and soloists will deliver the goods at 6 p.m. on Virginia Tech's Henderson Hall lawn.
Admission is free. Pack a picnic, spread a blanket and enjoy the music.
On Tuesday, bring your blankets and lawn chairs to Radford's Bisset Park. The Blacksburg Community Band plays at 7 p.m. in the gazebo.
Tuesday's concert is a freebie, too. It's sponsored by the Radford Parks and Recreation Department.
COMING UP: Blacksburg is getting ready for Steppin' Out, the annual street festival sponsored by the Downtown Merchants Association. It's happening Aug. 4 and 5.
More than 200 artists and craftsmen will display their work at the sidewalk sale. Original artwork, jewelry, clothing and one-of-a-kind collectibles are among the offerings.
Children's activities will be held on Virginia Tech's Henderson Hall lawn across from the Lyric Theatre Saturday afternoon.
As always, lots of popular local bands and performers will provide live entertainment both days. Favorites include Electric Woodshed, The Kind, The Thrift Unit and The Yams from Outer Space.
For more information on Steppin' Out, call 951-4200.
IS ACTING YOUR GAME? Playmakers & Company, the New River Valley's community theater since 1979, is calling all would-be actors to open auditions for the upcoming production of Neil Simon's "Chapter Two."
Parts for two men and two women are available. The comedy opens Sept. 22 at Playmakers' Playhouse in Blacksburg's University Mall.
Auditions will be held at the playhouse Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m.
Even if you aren't eager to audition, you're invited to come fill out an interest sheet. It's a chance to meet the show's director and discuss your interests in local theater.
GO HOME: If you haven't seen this year's production of "The Long Way Home," Radford's annual outdoor historical drama, you don't know what you're missing.
Heather Massie of Blacksburg is playing Mary Draper Ingles, the heroic woman who traveled 850 miles on foot to get back home after she was kidnapped by Shawnee warriors.
"Mary had to go on holding to the deep love she felt for her husband, family and frontier life and the faith that the river would lead her home," Massie said. "Playing the role of Mary Draper Ingles is very much an honor...."
"The Long Way Home" shows each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 2. Curtain time each night is at 8:30.
Historical tours of the site where Ingles lived are held before each show, starting with a ferry trail walk at 7.
Admission is $7 for adults or $3.50 for children under 12. Add $1 for preferred seating. Tours are included in the admission prices. Call 639-0679 for reservations. The phones are manned Thursday through Sunday, 5:30 to 10 p.m.
The outdoor drama is held in the Ingles Homestead Amphitheater in Radford. From Interstate 81, take Exit 105 to Virginia 232.
FRENCH SMALL FRIES: Les Petits Chanteurs du Comte' de Flandre, a French boys' choir, will bring a big sound to Floyd Thursday. The choir, now on an international tour, performs at the Oak Grove Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
The concert is part of Zion Lutheran Church's outreach ministry. Admission is free.
To get to the site from the traffic light in Floyd, go east on U.S. 221. Turn left across from Harris Baker Furniture onto Virginia 615 to Virginia 693.
This is an outdoor concert, so come prepared with blankets and lawn chairs.
