Peter Coors, the company's chief executive officer who visited the plant earlier this week to encourage workers to reject the Teamsters' overture, said Thursday's vote is a sign that the nonunion arrangement works.
``Our employees were offered a choice, and they chose to continue building a partnership with management,'' Coors said from the company's headquarters in Golden, Colo.
A majority of the 238 eligible workers at the Elkton plant signed signature cards in favor of holding the two-day, secret-ballot election.
The main issues were benefits and job security at the plant. Workers were concerned the $7 an hour temporary workers with no benefits could replace permanent employees who earn about $16 an hour.
