Lady L Bridals leaving downtown

Lady L Bridals will close its downtown Roanoke formal wear store Monday. Company president Nannette Shor said Friday that closing the store on Jefferson Street will allow the company to consolidate its merchandise at the Lady L stores in Richmond, Colonial Heights and Virginia Beach. The 2,000-square-foot Roanoke store was not large enough to carry a wide selection of dresses, she said.

The store has arranged with other Roanoke Valley formal wear and tuxedo shops to handle all upcoming weddings that were booked through Lady L, Shor said.

The Richmond company's downtown Roanoke store has operated for 4 1/2 years, leasing space from women's apparel retailer Lazarus Inc., which owns the building on Jefferson Street. Lady L's lease originally was to run through December 1996, but the two companies reached an agreement to end the lease early, according to Shor and Lazarus president Chip Lazarus.

Lazarus said no plans have been made to re-lease the space.
