CFW Communications Co. of Waynesboro reported second-quarter income of $1.7 million, an increase of 1.8 percent over the prior year. Earnings per share were 13.4 cents this year, compared with 14.4 cents for the same period last year. This reduction was primarily caused by the company's sale of 1.2 million shares during the summer of 1994. The company said the six-month income from its telephone, network and cellular divisions posted an increase of $524,000, or 11.4 percent, while services and wireless cable had losses of $1.2 million because of heavy start-up costs.
Hubbell
Hubbell Inc., Orange, Conn., maker of industrial wiring and controls with a plant in Christiansburg, reported second-quarter net income of $30.1 million, or 90 cents per share, on sales of $295 million, compared with year-earlier $26.5 million, or 79 cents, on sales of $261.9 million. For six months, net income was $58.5 million, or $1.76 per share, on sales of $573.4 million, compared with $50.8 million, or $1.53, on sales of $468.9 million.
Intermet Corp.
Intermet Corp., Atlanta parent of the Radford Shell Plant - formerly Lynchburg Foundry - and the New River Casting facility, also in Radford, reported second-quarter net income of $9.5 million, or 39 cents per share, on sales of $149 million, compared with year-earlier $2.4 million, or 10 cents per share, on sales of $124.6 million. For the six months, net income was $16.1 million, or 65 cents per share, on sales of $302.3 million, compared with year-earlier $4.1 million, or 17 cents per share, on sales of $234.5 million.
