BOYS WITH LIGHTER START HOUSE FIRE

Two 13-year-old boys started a fire Friday night that caused $25,000 worth of damage to a Northeast Roanoke house and its contents.

The boys were playing with a cigarette lighter in a bedroom at 3527 Oliver Road, said Roanoke District Fire Chief Garry Basham.

They tried to put the fire out after it started - a move that put them in danger, Basham said.

Firefighters received an alarm at 7:51 p.m. and found heavy smoke when they arrived at the scene. They contained the blaze in 10 minutes.

The owner of the house, Bruce J. Martin, was not present at the time of the fire, Basham said. No injuries were reported.
