'DAWGS WIN FINALE

The Roanoke RiverDawgs scored three goals in a span of three minutes early in the first half to close their inaugural season with a 7-0 victory over the Birmingham Grasshoppers on Saturday night in the U.S. Interregional Soccer League.

A club-record crowd of 1,807 at Cave Spring Junior High School saw Ian Spooner complete a natural hat trick within a 10-minute span of the first half. Spooner scored his third goal on a through ball from Eduardo Wissar at the 23:44 mark.

John Armstrong had the first and last goals of the match.

The RiverDawgs' defense did not give up a shot in the first half and relinquished only five in the match. Roanoke racked up 16.

Spooner was named offensive player of the game for his efforts, and Byron Mitchell was named defensive player of the game.
