EARLY-RACE ACCIDENT DOESN'T STOP LITTLE

CHAD LITTLE leads the Busch Grand National series point race after notching his sixth victory of the season.

Chad Little came back from an early-race accident to score his sixth NASCAR Busch Grand National Series victory of the year in Saturday's Ford Credit 300 at South Boston Speedway.

The win also moved Little into the series point lead past Johnny Benson, who finished 16th after experiencing mechanical problems. (Results in Scoreboard. B2)

Little, leading on lap 58, tangled with the lapped car of Doug Heveron, causing damage to his Ford. Restarting at the rear of the field, Little roared back into contention, taking the lead again on lap 116.

Little lost the lead on lap 151 as his tires faded. Defending series champion David Green then led until lap 231, when Little, after pitting for fresh tires, again took over. He led the rest of the way in the 300-lap race on the .400-mile track.

Little beat the Chevrolet of Mike McLaughlin by 1.9 seconds and collected $23,050. Green finished third, followed by Larry Pearson and Ward Burton.

Little averaged 70.210 mph in a race that lasted 1 hour, 42 minutes and 33 seconds. There were seven cautions for 36 laps.
