ROANOKERS WIN AT JUNIOR OLYMPICS

Tommy Rappold and Lindsay Hock of Roanoke won events Saturday during the Virginia Long-Course Junior Olympic swim meet at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham.

Rappold, competing for the Carter Center Aquatics team, won the boys' 11- and 12-year-old division of the 50-yard butterfly in 31.10 seconds. Hock, competing for the Roanoke Valley Gators, took the girls' 10-and-under 50-yard breast stroke in 41.07.

Four Roanokers placed in The Rage in Rockbridge, a mountain bike race in Lexington.

Ed Dickinson won the pro expert competition, completing four five-mile laps in 1 hour, 28 minutes.

Gary Roach finished first in the sport class, traversing three laps in 1:10.53. Troy Smith was third in 1:14.46.

Floyd Muse completed two laps in 53:26 to win the beginner competition.
