ARMSTRONG, George J., 88, of Roanoke, died Saturday, July 29, 1995. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

BRATTON, Harry William Sr., 74, of Roanoke, died Friday, July 28, 1995 at his residence. Mr. Bratton was a graduate of Virginia Southern College and was a retired Letter Carrier from the U. S. Postal Service. He devoted many rewarding hours as an amateur radio operator (W4ZZU), and to the Army Mars Program in the state of Virginia (AAR3MY). He was preceded in death by his parents, William Clarence and Pearl Fuller Bratton, two brothers Ernest F. Bratton, and Clarence J. Bratton, and is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Wingo Bratton; his sons, and daughters-in-law, Harry WIlliam Jr. and Linda Bratton, Ronnie Stephen and Denise Bratton, Jan Lynn and Malinda Bratton, all of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Daniel, Jennifer, Andrew, Amy, and Melissa; special brother, Richard D. Bratton and his wife, Reva, Bonsack; his sisters-in-law, Marion B. Bratton, Betty Bratton, both of Roanoke; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Monday, July 31, 10 a.m. with Mr. Aubry Hudgins officiating. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 823 Whitney Ave., N.W., Wednesday, August 2, 1995, 7 p.m. with Mr. Fred Barker officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel.

CLARK, Dr. Walter Ernest II, 78 of Rt. 1, Stuart, died Friday night, July 28, 1995, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Mr. Clark was born in Patrick County, Va. to the late Walter E. Clark and Mable Lawson Clark. He received degrees from Virginia Military Institute, George Wa shington University and the University of Wisconsin. He was a college professor before becoming a research chemist at the Oakridge National Laboratory in Oakridge, Tennessee. He was a Fullbright professor in Katmandu, in Nepal, Asia. In addition to all of Mr. Clark's educational endeavors, he was an active leader in church and civic groups throughout his life. He was instrumental in the construction of the new Patrick County Library. He served on the Regional Library Board for ten years. Mr. Clark also served in WWII and retired from the U. S. Army with the rank of Lt. Col. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda Barnes Clark, of the home; three sons, Dr. Ross Clark, Richmond, Kentucky, David Lawson Clark, Stuart, Va., and Walter E. Clark III, Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Blevins, Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Andy Clark, Dan Clark, Laurel Ann Clark, and John Clark. Funeral services for Mr. Walter Clark will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the New hope United Methodist Church in Stuart, with the Rev. Wayne Crews and the Rev. Tom Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the New Hope Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.

COOK, Walter Franklin, 59, of Route 6, Rocky Mount died at his residence Saturday morning, July 29, 1995. He was the son of William Meece and Dula Board Cook. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Daniel Cook and a brother, Dennis Thomas Cook. Mr. Cook ran Franklin Upholstry for 35 years. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Dillon Cook; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Ron Henry, Burnt Chimney, Sue and Mark Jones, Jo Ann and Kenny Sawyer s, all of Rocky Mount, Drema Eanes, Oak Level; sons and daughters-in-law, Price and Regina Cook, Ferrum, Bill Cook, Rocky Mount, Kenneth Cook, Oltha, Kansas, Tina Graham Cook, Boones Mill; grandchildren, Tabitha Jones, Courtney Cook, Steven Henry, Brittany Cook, Erica Cook, Heather Cook, Chris Fitzgerald, Brad and Nikki Eanes, Brittany ``Boo"" Simmons; brother, Glenn Cook, Roanoke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Vincent Saggese, Chesapeake, Mildred and Alfred Mitchell, Roanoke, Jean Cundiff, Virginia Beach; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Helen Dillon, Burnt Chimney, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Jean Dillon; a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel, 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Old Liberty Cemetery. DEATON, Carol Fisher, 52, of Chester, died Thursday, July 27, 1995, at Stuart Circle Hospital, Richmond. She was a native of Roanoke, office manager at Ettrick Elementary School and past president of the C.E.O.P.A. She is survived by her husband, W. Reid Deaton; son, William Reid (Will) Deaton Jr., Pennsacola, Fla.; two daughters, Wendy Deaton Conner, Birmingham, Ala., Nancy Suzanne Deaton, Chester; grandson, Deaton Earl Conner, Birmingham; parents, Earl R. and Bertha Jamison Fisher; two sisters, Roma Ann Myers and Nancy Fisher Helm; two brothers, Danny Floyd and Maurice Fisher all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights with the Rev. Rick Georghegan officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Oakey's North Chapel, Roanoke with the Rev. Bill Harding officiating. HOLLAND, Doris Brooks, 90, of Rocky Mount, went to be with her Lord, Friday, July 28, 1995. She was a daughter of the late Mack and Nannie Brooks and was the widow of Willie Holland. Mrs. Holland was retired from teaching in the public school system after 29 years of service. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Catherine Woody, Rocky Mount; her son, Cyril Wayne Holland, Roanoke; her grandson, Barney Woody and his wife, Bonita; two great-granddaughters, Randi and Sara Woody, Rocky Mount; one brother, Earlie Brooks and his wife, Mabel, Rocky Mount; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Albert and Lucy Hollnad, Penhook, Clyde and Christine Holland, Paul and Reba Holland, Union Hall; three sisters-in-law, Dotsie Thurman, Gladys Johnson, and Vickie Holland all of Glade Hill; several nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Bill and Emily McCraw, Dorothy Poff, Doris Johnson, and Ethel Mattox. McCLURE, Carl J. Sr., 66, of Roanoke, formerly of Bluefield, W.Va., passed away Friday, July 28, 1995. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Kirkpatrick. He was employed by Dr. Pepper for a number of years. He is survived by his son, Carl J. McClure Jr. of Roanoke; a daughter, Dottie E. McClure of Roanoke; granddaughter, Kayla Rene' Moore; two sisters, Minnie Lucille Garst of Roanoke, and Olivia Nohava of Christiansburg; his aunt, C. Josephine Dunn of Edenton, N.C.; also a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at the Roselawn Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va., 11 a.m. Monday. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

MCNIEL, Ruth Willard, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, July 18, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Peter McNiel and a son, Roncie McNiel. She is survived by two daughters, Vivian McNiel, Christiansburg, Aberdeen Vest, Check; two sons, Alfred McNiel, Christiansburg, Marshall ``Beeb"" McNeil, Pilot; ten grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 31, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Kimball Jones and the Rev. Leon Alley, with burial in Sunset Cemetery.
