Teacher's photographs on display in Pulaski
PULASKI - Photographs by Aileen Fletcher, who teaches at New River Valley Community College, are on exhibit at Casimir Company at 69 W. Main St.
"This collection of photographs reflects my love for the outdoors, for the landscape, for old buildings which are being repossessed by nature, for spiritual places and for trees, plants and vines," she said. "People are sometimes a small part of these landscapes, passing through them, engaged in some outdoor activity. Buildings and abandoned possessions also reveal the presence of people when the people have moved on."
The show includes photos taken in the New River Valley, along the New River Trail, in Russell County and Cade's Cove in Smoky Mountain National Park. Many were taken with infrared film that lightens foliage and often records a heat glow as well as light.
Fletcher has toned the photos to turn blacks to browns and hand-colored them with watercolor and oil, transforming the original scene into a personal composition.
The opening of Fletcher's show at Casimir Company coincides with the 1995 Menagerie Show at the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley at 21 W. Main St.
