The June 1994 index was 148.0, meaning that a collection of goods and services that cost $148 a year ago carried a price tag of $152.50 at the end of June.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the index would have stood at 456.7 at the end of June if the government still used 1967 as the base year of 100. The government now uses an average for 1982-1984 as the base for measuring consumer inflation.
Under the old base, the same goods and services that cost $100 in 1967 would have cost $456.70 last month.
