Burlington Industries, Greensboro, N.C., textiles company with a carpet plant at Glasgow and parent of Bacova Guild Ltd. in Bath County, reported third-quarter net income of $19.5 million, or 30 cents per share, on sales of $582 million, compared with year-earlier $37.7 million, or 61 cents, on sales of $583.4 million. For nine months, net income was $54.5 million, or 83 cents, on sales of $1.68 billion, compared with $83.2 million, or $1.27, on $1.58 billion.
LADD Furniture
LADD Furniture Inc., High Point, N.C.-based parent of American of Martinsville, reported a second-quarter net loss of $27.3 million, equal to $3.54 a share, on sales of $149 million, compared with year-earlier $2.7 million, or 35 cents, on sales of $153.2 million. For six months, the net loss was $27.3 million, equal to $3.54 per share, on sales of $302.4 million, compared with net income of $4.4 million, or 57 cents, on $292.2 million.
Stein Mart
Stein Mart Inc., Jacksonville, Fla., retailer planning to open a Roanoke County store in September, reported second-quarter net income of $5.2 million, or 22 cents per share, on sales of $116.5 million, compared with year-earlier $4.9 million, or 21 cents, on sales of $97.9 million. For six months, net income was $3.9 million, or 17 cents, on sales of $204.2 million, compared with $5.2 million, or 22 cents, on $177.1 million.
