MAN SHOT IN STOMACH IN CRITICAL CONDITION

A Rocky Mount man was in critical condition Wednesday night after being shot in the stomach by a relative, police said.

The town's police chief, Butch Jenkins, identified the victim as Wallace Bussey, 21, of 530 Bland St. Jenkins said Bussey was shot about 10 a.m. by a 15-year-old juvenile whose name Jenkins would not release.

Jenkins said Bussey was shot in the stomach with a .22-caliber bullet, and a .22-caliber rifle was recovered at the scene.

Bussey was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, then was flown by helicopter to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where a relative said he was in critical condition Wednesday night.

Jenkins did not release any details about the reason for the shooting.
