ROANOKE VETERANS WIN MEDALS IN DALLAS

Several Roanoke-area veterans competed in the National Golden Age Games sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans of Foreign Wars held recently in Dallas.

Charles Clatterbuck, an Army veteran from Roanoke, won three medals: a bronze in bowling, a gold in shuffleboard and a silver in table tennis. Louise Spangler, an Army veteran from Elliston, won two gold medals: one in horseshoes and the other in the pentathlon. Arthur Dobie, Navy veteran from Roanoke, won a bronze in table tennis.

Also competing in the event were: Lindsey Robertson Sr., an Air Force veteran; John McCadden, an Army veteran; Cordell Dickey, an Army veteran; and Marshall Esther, a Marine Corps veteran, all of Roanoke.

The event demonstrates the value of regular exercise, recreation and friendly competition among elderly patients. The participants are veterans ages 55 and up.
