The arts and entertainment monthly will open an office in Richmond next week, said Jim Cubby, V's owner and editor. Cubby said Thursday he will run the office and plans to hire two more staff members.
In addition to the magazine's main office in Roanoke, V has had an office in Charlottesville for the past 11/2 years. The decision to expand to Richmond was a result of advertiser demand, Cubby said.
"We've been getting calls for ads from Richmond, and we haven't had a staff there to deal with them," he said.
Cubby said too many Richmond-area businesses forget about Roanoke's advertising options. By opening an office there, he intends to show potential advertisers that V is a statewide - not just a Roanoke-Charlottesville - publication.
About 10 percent of the magazine's advertising comes from Richmond businesses, Cubby said. Advertisers in Charlottesville account for another 25 percent. The rest are from the Roanoke area.
The monthly magazine, which began publishing in Roanoke five years ago, claims a circulation of 50,000. It is distributed free at about 500 points across Virginia.
