Drewry anniversary

Henry A. and Frances L. Drewry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 23, 1995, with a celebration at their home in New Castle, Va., given by their daughter-in-law, Caroly Drewry and granddaughters, Monica Barton, Robyn Drewry and Tammy Drewry. They were married July 21, 1945, at Daleville, Va., by Rev. Edgar S. Martin. Henry is retired from Lone Star Cement Co., and Frances is retired from Roanoke City Schools. Guests included their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

\ Emerson anniversary

Willie W. and Hazel Emerson of Roanoke celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary July 30. They were married on that date in 1940.

Mr. Emerson, a native of Henry County, is a retired general contractor.

Mrs. Emerson, the former Hazel Bennett of Franklin County, is a homemaker.

The Emersons have a daughter and two grandchildren.

Grayson anniversary

James and Margaret Grayson of Blacksburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by hosting their children and grandchildren at the Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, Va., August 2-4. The inn has special significance for the Grayson family. During the early years of this century, Dr. Grayson's mother and several of his aunts graduated from Martha Washington College, which was founded in 1858 and operated as a women's college for more than 70 years. In 1934 the building that housed the college wa converted to a hotel. Dr. Grayson's parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1960 at the Martha Washington Inn in the presence of all their children and grandchildren. Now, 35 years later, the family has continued the tradition-this time in the newly renovated inn.

Dr. Grayson, a native of Wythe County, was a faculty member at Virginia Tech for 42 years. He served as head of the Department of Entomology from 1959 to 1979. Mrs. Grayson, the former Margaret Lawrence of Windsor, Va., is a graduate of Longwood College.

Those attending the anniversary were Nancy G. Holmes and her son, Grayson, from Lexington, Ky.; Elizabeth Grayson and her husband, John Wilshear, from Atlanta, Ga.; Bill and Beth Cofer and their sons, Jimmy and David, from Pullman, Wash.; and Mary and Al Segars and their children, Luke, Mac and Gray, from Hartsville, S. C.

After leaving Abingdon, most of the family returned to Blacksburg for the Steppin' Out Festival.

\ Guthrie anniversary

Herman and Ora Guthrie will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 10, 1995. They were married in Florida on August 10, 1945. She is the former Ora Agee. They have two children, Judy Perdue and Shelton Guthrie, both of Salem; and are the grandparents of Sarah and Mary Guthrie and Doug and Anne Perdue. Both Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie are retired.

\ Mixon anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. William Allen Mixon are celebrating 60 years of marriage.

They were married August 5, 1935 in Henderson, N.C. and have been residents of Roanoke since 1947. They are long time members of Crystal Spring Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mixon is the former Louray Stainback.

Mr. Mixon is a retired watchmaker and Mrs. Mixon retired from Propst Childress Shoes.

Their family includes one daughter and two grandsons, all of Roanoke.
