MAN RUNS OVER 3-YEAR-OLD SON

A man accidentally ran over his 3-year-old son and killed him, authorities said.

William A. Shifflett died just minutes after the Friday afternoon accident near his Fauquier County home.

The toddler's father, Steven W. Shifflett, was in his pickup truck and was stopped next to his wife's car, which was pulled over on the shoulder, according to an accident report.

The boy got out of the car and went in front of the pickup unnoticed, the report said. Police said the pickup then pulled off and ran over the boy.
