LYNCH GETS 2ND VICTORY IN FCS RACE

Steve Lynch of Rocky Mount raced to his second victory of the season Saturday in the Late Model Stock Car feature of the U.S. Marines/Hoosier Tire 300 at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway.

Lynch took the lead on the ninth lap after a wreck involving Mark Cox and Bobby Gillespie, who both were knocked out of the race. Leon Dalton and Carl Dadian also were involved, but they both returned.

Bobby Radford, who led the first eight laps, blew a head gasket, ending his night.

Orvil Reedy finished second, followed by Lowe Smith, Phillip VanDerVeer and T.J. Plunkett.

In the Street Stocks, Mike Dudley won his second race of the season but didn't pick up the $400 bounty on Mike Elkins due to Elkins pulling in on the final lap. Brian Coake was second, followed by Larry Avery, Elkins and Gillespie.

In the Mini Stocks, Travis Sharp won, followed by James Cox, Rodney Campbell, Carlton Clark and Gary Clifton.

Kelly Kingery notched his first FCS win in the Pure Stocks. Jay Peery was second with Greg Tester third, Tommy Dooley fourth and Doc Holiday fifth.

In the Rookie race, Bobby Davis won, followed by Mark Stoner, Harland Dalton, Curtis Buckner and Tony Purdue.

Chris Hatchett won the truck race, and Patrick Evans won the Any Car race.

In other news:

Jeff French of Bedford was the only double winner in Sunday's WKA kart racing at New River Valley Speedway.

French took the checkered flag in the Limited Modified and Briggs Modified divisions. Jamie Doss of Danville was second in the Limited and third in the Briggs events. Mike Overstreet of Bedford followed French to the line in the Limited race, while Mike Church of Keysville was second in the Briggs race.

In other action, Church won the Stock Heavy competition, beating Doug Crew of South Boston and Robert Marion of Mount Airy, N.C. Jimmy Arthur of Radford took the Stock Medium race, with Jason Lawrence of Floyd in second and Kim Gollehon of Radford third.

Courtney Krantz of Bedford was top gun in the Stock Light feature with Jason Lawrence and Dale Bain, both of Floyd, second and third.

Hunter Pearce of Natural Bridge won the Junior Sportsman II race, beating Jason Mitcham of Blacksburg and Andrew Woodyard of Christiansburg. In the Junior Sportsman I action, Jason Kowalsky of Rustburg won, beating Mike Crouse of Salem and Stephen Crouch of Bedford.

The speedway will host a divisional race Aug.20 and a national event on Aug. 26.
