2ND MAN INDICTED IN ROANOKE SLAYING

A Roanoke grand jury on Monday indicted Michael James Houser on charges of capital murder and robbery in the shooting of a Southwest Roanoke man.

Randall Carter was shot and killed June 30 in his Memorial Avenue house. Houser, 24, of Tayloe Avenue Southeast, showed up later at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Medical personnel attending to Houser found $190 in his shoe. Prosecutors allege that money belonged to Carter.

Houser also is charged with two counts of using a firearm.

He was the second man to be arrested in Carter's death.

Thomas Arthur Burton, 28, also is charged with capital murder and robbery. In addition, Burton is charged with the malicious wounding of Houser.

Both suspects are in the Roanoke City Jail.

Also Monday, Coleman A. Stigall was indicted on five burglary charges.

Stigall, 35, of Salem, also is charged with burglarizing six homes each in Salem and Roanoke County.

Police link Stigall to the theft of $100,000 worth of property from homes in Roanoke, Roanoke County and Salem during a two-month period.

He is in the Roanoke City Jail.
