THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Cenovia and Stephanie Cunmmins - the Roanoke-born-and raised sisters and musicians who performed with the Roanoke Symphony last spring - are on tour with pop singer Carly Simon.

Violinist Cenovia Cummins, who played on Simon's album "Romulus Hunt," has known the singer for some time, said her father, Richard Cummins.

He said Simon asked his daughters to tour with her because the rest of her band members are male - and she wanted some female company.

Stephanie Cummins plays the cello.

The tour, which concludes in San Francisco on Aug. 22, does not stop in Virginia. Stephanie Cummins also has been offered the position of principal cellist for the Broadway revival of "The King and I," which opens in February, her father said.
