The nine supervisors were indicted Monday for malfeasance in office by a grand jury in the Eastern Shore county. A state police investigation revealed the improper spending after a citizens' watchdog group noticed the money was missing.
If convicted of the misdemeanor charges, the supervisors each could face up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
In addition to a campaign contribution, supervisors are accused of giving money to churches, youth baseball organizations and civic groups. Funds apparently were dispersed by individual supervisors without the approval of the board.
