Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., Louisville, Ky., parent of Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, reported a second-quarter net loss of $18 million after merger and consolidation costs, equal to 4 cents per share, on revenue of $4.36 billion compared with year earlier $243 million, or 58 cents per share, on revenues of $3.52 billion. For the six months, net income was $340 million, or 76 cents per share, on revenue of $8.74 billion compared with year-earlier $338 million, or 81 cents per share, on revenue of $6.95 billion.
Cox Communications
Cox Communications Inc., Atlanta parent of Cox Cable Roanoke, reported second-quarter earnings of $5 million on revenues of $328.1 million compared with year earlier $13 million on revenues of $183.6 million. For the six months, net income was $6.8 million on revenues of $599.3 million compared with year-earlier $27.4 million on revenues of $363.1 million. The company did not release per-share earnings, saying the comparisons were not applicable because the company doubled its size through acquisitions in the past year.
The Limited
The Limited, Columbus, Ohio-based retailer, reported net earnings of $48.8 million, or 14 cents per share, on revenue of $1.72 billion for its second quarter ended July 29 compared with year-earlier $53.8 million, or 15 cents per share, on revenue of $1.59 billion. For the first half year, net income was $88 million, or 25 cents per share, on revenue of $3.31 billion compared with year-earlier $101.1 million, or 28 cents per share, on revenue of $3.07 billion.
McDermott
McDermott International Inc., New Orleans parent of Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation and Government Groups in Lynchburg, reported net income of $8.8 million, or 12 cents per share, on revenues of $816.5 million for its first quarter ended June 30, compared with year-earlier $1.4 million, or a penny per share, on revenues of $759.8 million.
