Two Pulaski men were arrested soon after the 11:15 p.m. incident. Police have charged both with breaking and entering and attempted murder.
Barbara Greenberg, of the 700 block of Tyler Avenue, took a knife away from an intruder after a struggle in her home, Radford police report. The man then fled on foot, according to police.
Greenberg was treated for minor injuries at Radford Community Hospital and released.
Police, in their search for the suspect, had described him to a convenience store clerk, who called an hour or so later saying that a man fitting the description was in the area.
Radford and Radford University police arrested Gary Lee Wall, 18, as he walked along Tyler Avenue near the Radford University campus, a few blocks from Greenberg's house.
Radford Police Detective David Trail said the arresting officers also discovered some property on Wall that belonged to the victim.
Acting on a tip, Christiansburg police also arrested French David Kanode, 21, around 2 a.m. Monday at his mother's home and charged him along with Wall with breaking and entering into Greenberg's house and her attempted murder.
Police believe a second man was in Greenberg's house, though she did not see him. "She gave a very good description of one of the people - the one she saw in her house," Trail said.
Police said the victim knew Kanode because he had mowed her yard on at least one occasion.
Kanode and Wall remained in Radford City Jail without bond following their arraignment Monday in Radford General District Court.
