ROANOKE MAN EXTRADITED TO MARYLAND

A Roanoke man was extradited to Maryland on Wednesday to face charges in the shotgun slaying of a man eight years ago.

Roanoke Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Greg Phillips said Stephen A. Lucado, 41, did not fight his extradition to Carroll County, Md. Lucado and Cordell A. Patton, of Baltimore, have been charged in the death of John C. Ruhs in Carroll County in March 1987. Patton is already in police custody.

Lucado was arrested in Roanoke Tuesday morning. Among Lucado's charges are first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Marcie Wogan, deputy state attorney in Carroll County, said Lucado may have a bond hearing as early as today.
