TV VETERAN BACK AT BARTER

Bristol native Richard McKenzie is back at Barter Theatre where he started his career, starring in the Barter Stage II production of "Wrong Turn at Lungfish" through Aug. 27.

He went from Barter to Broadway to Los Angeles, and is known to television audiences as a series regular in "It Takes Two" and for recurring roles on "Matlock," "It's a Living" and "Soap."

He played Archie Bunker's brother in "All in the Family" and has appeared on many other TV shows. His most recent film credits include "The Doctor," "Some Kind of Hero" and "Bad News Bears Break Training."

McKenzie first played the lead in "Wrong Turn at Lungfish" in Los Angeles, taking over for Wise County native George C. Scott when Scott became ill.

He plays a college professor who has lost his sight, and who matches wits with a woman, played by Isadora O'Boto, who comes to read to him in the hospital. O'Boto appeared at Barter earlier this season as Maggie in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and was featured in the films, "A Winter's Journey" and "City of Kay" in addition to many theater credits.

Other returning Barter performers are Randall Rapstine and Mandy Dooley. John Hardy is the director.

McKenzie first appeared at Barter in 1956 in "King of Hearts" with Cleo Holladay and Woody Romoff. His most recent Barter appearance was in 1964 in "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
