VIRGINIA BEACH - Two women were charged with abduction and malicious assault after tying up another woman, making her write a suicide note and then forcing pills into her mouth and taping it shut, police said.
The victim, Renee Johnson Scott, 37, survived the attack Wednesday when her 5-year-old son called police; the women fled when they heard approaching sirens. They were arrested nearby, said Lewis Thurston, a police spokesman.
Thurston said one of the suspects, Cathy D. Cuffee, 34, of Chesapeake, had been acquainted with Scott's husband before the marriage.

Man grabs jogger, attempts to rape her
FAIRFAX - A man wearing only sneakers and a T-shirt wrapped around his head grabbed a woman jogger and tried to rape her before he was scared off by the approach of another jogger, police said Wednesday.
``He ran off, not wearing anything other than that,'' Fairfax officer Sharon Riley said.
The 32-year-old victim was assaulted but not raped in the daytime attack near a jogging path in suburban Fairfax County on July 31, police said.
The second jogger refused to help the victim further.
``She was pleading, saying, `Help, I'm being raped,' that sort of thing,'' Riley said. ``But he said he could not take her back to her house or help her any more, because he was late for work.''
The woman returned home alone and called police, Riley said.
Police found and interviewed the second jogger later, she said.
Fairfax Police offered a reward in hopes someone saw the naked man as he fled.
