Rabbi Frank Muller, spiritual leader for Western Virginia Jews of the Reform tradition at Temple Emanuel, will leave Roanoke this fall for a Youngstown, Ohio, congregation. Muller, who will begin his new duties Nov. 1, has been at the Roanoke temple for 10 years.
Henderson to move
The Rev. Dr. David Henderson, pastor of Central Baptist Church of Starkey for the past 18 years, will become pastor of Bedford Baptist Church on Sept.10. Henderson's wife, Donna, will continue to teach in the Roanoke Valley. In May the pastor-elect was named president of the Roanoke Valley Ministers Conference, an interfaith group of spiritual leaders in Roanoke area congregations.
Moderator elected
At their 207th General Assembly in July in Cincinnati delegates from Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations elected a former journalist, Marj Carpenter, its moderator. Carpenter formerly was manager of Presbyterian News Service and a mission interpreter. Other business included approval of an investment plan to secure money for more new churches, an effort to reconcile differences with the conservative Presbyterian Lay Committee and deferring for further study a new call system for clergy and full membership in in the Consultation on Church Union.
Boychoir concert
A French boychoir, The Little Singers from the County of Flanders, will present a program at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 631 N. Jefferson St., on Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The choir, which has sung at St. Andrew's before, will sing a variety of sacred music. The concert is free.

Sound seminar
Registration is open for a sound seminar, a workshop for those who operate sound equipment in their churches. It will be Sept. 30 at Bonsack Baptist Church and is open to those of any denomination involved with electronic materials. The nonprofit program costs $30 to cover lunch and training materials. Boones Mill expansion
Boones Mill Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which relocated to a new building two years ago, will open a center for before- and after-school care starting in September. United Methodist retreat
A 24-hour retreat to enhance the spiritual lives of adults will be offered in three locations this fall under sponsorship of the United Methodist Division of Spiritual Formation of the Virginia Conference. Registrants may choose from Massanetta Springs on Sept. 29 and 30, Smith Mountain Lake 4-H Center on Oct. 14 and 15, or The Well Retreat Center at Smithfield on Oct. 28 and 29. Gospel concert
Dallas Holm, nationally traveled gospel singer and evangelist, will present a program Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Vinton Baptist Church. Holm, in music ministry for 25 years, has won several Dove awards from the Gospel Music Association. A $3 donation at the door and a nonperishable food article are requested; the food will go to the Baptist inner-city Roanoke Community House.
Light to be honored
Bishop A. Heath Light, who will retire as spiritual and administrative leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia in 1996, will be honored Aug. 27 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Phoebe Needles Retreat Center in Franklin County. A potluck meal will conclude the event. Light has headed the diocese since 1979; a search for his replacement is under way. Call 483-3381 for more information.
Webster moving on
The Rev. Richard Webster, interim minister at Lexington Presbyterian Church for the past 18 months, will conclude his work there Aug. 20. Webster will take another temporary pastorate in Wausau, Wis. The Lexington congregation will vote later this month on a successor to the Rev. Dr. Randolph Harrison, who retired to Staunton after 19 years at the church.
Fine arts programs
Main Street United Methodist Church in downtown Bedford will begin Sept. 24 a new ministry of fine arts programs. The first will be a cello recital by Johnson Scott and Eric Hollandsworth. It will begin at 7 p.m.
