ROANOKE SWIMMER, 57, DROWNS IN THE JAMES

Roger Vess, 57, of Roanoke drowned Saturday while swimming in the James River, according to a Botetourt County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Vess was swimming in the river near Oxbow Farm, off Virginia 43.

No foul play is suspected, the spokesman said.

Vess' body was sent to Community Hospital for an autopsy.

No other information was immediately available.
